Join Oakland's Cantare Con Vivo in paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1 and veterans everywhere. This stunning piece by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins is a powerful and relevant anti-war extended work. First performed in 2000, it incorporates texts by Kipling, John Dryden, Jonathan Swift, Tennyson and Sankichi Toge. Also included is the Islamic call to prayer, selected texts from the Bible and from the Mahabharata from ancient India, along with extracts from the Ordinary of the Mass. Performed with soloists and chamber orchestra we will also present a film designed to correspond harmoniously with the theme and tone of each individual piece with the footage edited in precise synchronicity with Jenkins’ music. The filmmakers were presented with a Peace Award at the Ninth Annual World Sabbath of Religious Reconciliation for their work. Rehearsals start Sunday, January 7 with a performance in March.
