About Us

Located in West Oakland, Civicorps was founded in 1983 as one of the first local conservation corps in California. Our mission is to re-engage young adults, age 18-26, to earn their high school diplomas, gain job skills, pursue college, and embark on family sustaining careers.
Civicorps’ Conservation Career Pathways Program delivers high-impact paid job training, college and career readiness preparation, and wrap-around support services to 220 East Bay youth, annually. In partnership with local employers, we provide participants, primarily low-income young people of color, with hands-on training, education, and experience that serve as bridges to upwardly mobile public service careers in conservation, climate change mitigation, land management, and recycling.

Youth without a high school diploma or GED are required to enroll in Opportunity Academy, an onsite charter school administered by the Alameda County Office of Education in order to participate in paid job training. Civicorps is committed to providing East Bay youth with equitable access to education, employment, and environmental stewardship opportunities.
